Later versions of DNN 5.x (5.5 an up, possibly earlier (?)) will find that it is back on the Host Settings page again as it should be. the warnings over the odd actions of third party modules and some core is definitely a concern, but it seems that you should try it out and test on a case-by-case basis. We've seen that sometimes there are login or state persistence problems, but many times, sites run just fine with the setting as Memory.
